Who I am
The biggest challenge leaders face isn’t a lack of commitment, capability, or care.
The real issues is a leadership environment that forces principals to operate in constant reaction, emotional overload, and misalignment, while offering very little space or support to lead well.
Leaders are working inside systems that were never designed for human complexity. They are expected to hold outcomes, wellbeing, culture, community expectations, compliance, reputation, and emotional labour all at once, often without the time, clarity, or support required to do this sustainably.
My name is Amanda McGovern, and I’ve spent more than twenty years working across education as a teacher, instructional coach, leadership developer, and facilitator of large-scale leadership programs. I’ve worked inside the system at the Department of Education and later at the Principals Association, supporting leaders at every stage of their journey, from aspirant leaders finding their voice to principals carrying the full weight of their school communities.
I understand the realities of school leadership because I’ve lived them and have seen what happens when leadership is misaligned, when systems overpower people, and when cultures quietly erode under pressure. But I’ve also witnesses what becomes truly possible when leaders are given the space, insight, and support to lead from a place of grounded self-awareness.
